Serialization

Modified on Thu, Aug 18, 2022 at 3:21 PM

Serialization works with the counter command. Two methods of serializations are provided:

  • By Company Campaign
  • By User

By Company Campaign allows using one pool to multiple products and users at the same time.

By User allows one pool – one product per user.

Setup:

Go to Product Setup (of a Blocks Product) then click Design.

Locate the Serialization section and select ‘by user’ or any of the predefined Company Campaigns. You can click the Manage Campaigns button to create campaigns.

By Company Campaign

To create a campaign, a name and start serial number is required. Updating the Start number will not reset the existing counter but the next serial number will be that number plus all records that have been processed before.

Description automatically generated

Example:

An already existing campaign with the following status:

Serial # 1001

Next #   1201

(Meaning that there were 200 processed)

Updating the Serial # to 5001 will make the Next # 5201.

IMPORTANT:

The blocks file preview uses the current Next number as the starting point but there is no guarantee that the same will be used when processing. The numbers used, when processing, are fixed. Every subsequent creation of the PDF will keep the numbers the same.

Layout will display the counter in one of three ways.

layout=1

 layout=3

By User

No other settings are required. This option is mainly used to keep track of a serial number associated with one user and one product. No attempt is made to force serialization, the user can freely change the ‘from’ and ‘to’ fields. It is mainly used as a reminder. Example: cheque numbering.
